K9 and sports freut sich sehr, ein Interview mit Eric Lapointe, dem Vize IGP FCI Weltmeister und aktuellen Sieger der französischen nationalen Meisterschaft geführt zu haben. “La Nationale” in Bréchaumont war ein tolles Erlebnis und wir möchten uns bei Eric und seinem Team für ihre Gastfreundschaft und einen spannenden Tag bedanken. Erics Leidenschaft für den Sport und seine Hingabe zu seinen Hunden sind wirklich inspirierend und wir sind dankbar für die Einblicke, die er während des Interviews mit uns geteilt hat.
Du hast im Jahr 2022 und auch an diesem Wochenende bemerkenswerte Erfolge erzielt! Herzlichen Glückwunsch zu deinen außergewöhnlichen Leistungen und verdienten Erfolgen!
1. Die Errungenschaften: Wie hast du das geschafft? Und was hat dich dazu motiviert, diesen Weg mit diesem Hund in IGP zu verfolgen? Gibt es eine Geschichte dazu?
Meine Leidenschaft für IGP begann das erste Mal, als ich einen Hund im IGP Unterordnung machen sah. Ich dachte mir “Das will ich auch machen”. Ich denke, dass das, was in IGP gefordert wird – Freude, Geschicklichkeit, Leidenschaft… alles, was man über in einem Hund lesen kann, der IGP ausübt – mich antreibt und mir die Kraft gibt, darauf zu bestehen, dass der Hund in den 3 Disziplinen gedeiht und somit die besten Ergebnisse erzielt. Orus ist nicht mein erster Hund, aber er hat von der Erfahrung profitiert, die ich mit meinen früheren Hunden gesammelt habe.
2. Deine kontinuierlichen Bemühungen: Gab es in deiner Karriere Erfahrungen, die dich fast dazu gebracht haben, aufzugeben?
Niemals. Ich denke, dass wir uns über alle Probleme freuen sollten, die auftreten können, weil es die Möglichkeit bietet, Lösungen zu finden und sich dadurch zu bereichern.
3. Das Training: Wie oft trainierst du deinen Hund pro Woche? Wie sieht eine Trainingswoche aus? Wie oft die verschiedenen Disziplinen? Was ist deine Lieblingsdisziplin? Fährte, Unterordnung oder Schutzdienst?
Ich trainiere fast jeden Tag ein wenig und passe die Häufigkeit meiner Trainings an, damit meine Hunde immer motiviert bleiben. Ich finde an jeder der Disziplinen Freude.
4. Deine Begleiter auf dem Weg zum Erfolg: Wer war dein wichtigster Unterstützer, dein wichtigster Mentor auf dem Weg zum Erfolg und warum? Was hast du von ihm oder ihr gelernt?
Mein Mentor und meine unerschütterliche Unterstützung ist niemand anderes als mein Trainer Illidio Camacho. Er ist eine Person, die immer präsent war, den Hund respektiert und versteht. Am erstaunlichsten ist, dass wir nicht immer dieselben Trainingsmethoden anwenden, aber er ist eine Person, die meine Art zu trainieren akzeptieren kann, seinen Standpunkt anbietet und selbst wenn ich nicht immer zuhöre, weiß ich, dass es meine Entscheidungen beeinflusst und mein Training ausrichtet. Mein großer Dank gilt also ihm.
5. Die Zukunft: Was ist dein Wunsch für die Zukunft? Was sind deine Pläne?
Mein erster Wunsch wäre eine größere Offenheit und mehr gegenseitiges Verständnis in der Hundewelt auf allen Ebenen (Familienhunde, Sport- und Armeehunde…). Ich möchte Erfahrungen wie diejenigen, die ich kürzlich bei den letzten beiden Weltmeisterschaften gemacht habe, wieder erleben dürfen. Überhaupt wünsche ich jedem Hundeführer, der seinen Hund respektiert, diese Empfindungen erleben zu dürfen.
6. Dein persönlicher Weg zum Erfolg: Gibt es etwas, das du hinzufügen möchtest? Kannst du einen Tipp mit der “K9 and Sports”-Community teilen, den man dir gegeben hat und den du nie vergessen hast?
Der Ratschlag lautet: “Wir haben nicht den Hund, den wir wollen, sondern den Hund, den wir brauchen.” Dies ist ein Rat von Bart Bellon.

K9 and sports is thrilled to have had the opportunity to interview Eric Lapointe, the Vice IGP FCI World Champion and current winner of the French National Championship. “La Nationale” in Bréchaumont was an amazing experience and we would like to thank Eric and his team for their hospitality and for making it such an exciting day. Eric’s passion for the sport and dedication to his dogs is truly inspiring and we are grateful for the insights he shared with us during the interview.
You have achieved remarkable successes in 2022 and this weekend too! Congratulations on your exceptional performances and well-deserved merits!
1. The Achievements: How did you manage to achieve this? And what motivated you to pursue this IGP path with this dog? Is there a story behind it?
My passion for IGP started the first time I saw a dog do obedience in IGP. I thought to myself “I want to do that too”. I believe that what is demanded in IGP – joy, dexterity, passion… everything that one can read about a dog exercising IGP – drives me and gives me the strength to insist that the dog thrives in the 3 disciplines and thus ends up giving the best results. Orus is not my first dog, but he has benefited from the experience I have gained with my previous dogs.
2. Your Continuous Efforts: Have there been any experiences in your career that almost made you give up?
Never. I believe that we should rejoice in all problems that may arise because it provides the opportunity to find solutions and therefore enrich ourselves.
3. The Training: How often do you train your dog per week? What does a training week look like? How often the different disciplines? What is your favorite discipline? Tracking, obedience, or protection?
I train almost every day a little bit and adjust the frequency of my training so that my dogs always stay motivated. I find satisfaction in each of the disciplines.
4. Your Companions on the Path to Success: Who has been your most important supporter, your most important mentor on the path to success, and why? What have you learned from him or her?
My mentor and unwavering support is none other than my trainer Illidio Camacho. He is a person who has always been present, respects and understands the dog. The most surprising thing is that we do not always apply the same training methods, but he is a person who can accept my way of doing things, offer his point of view, and even if I don’t always listen, I know it weighs in my choices and guides my training. Really have to thank him for so much.
5. The Future: What is your wish for the future? What are your plans?
My first wish would be for greater open-mindedness in the dog world at all levels (family dogs, sport dogs, military dogs…).
Furthermore I wish to repeat experiences like the ones I recently had at the last two World Championships. Finally, I wish for every handler who respects their dog to experience these sensations.
6. Your Personal Journey to Success: Is there anything you would like to add? Can you share a tip with the “K9 and Sports” community that someone gave you and you have never forgotten?
The advice is, “We don’t have the dog we want, we have the dog we need.” This is advice from Bart Bellon.
