Service dogs cannot be replaced due to their special sensory and motor skills. Only the securing of the intervention force can be compensated by additional intervention forces. In the absence of service dogs, they must be replaced by a multitude of personnel.
The majority of our service dogs, as is the case with almost all authorities and companies, come from private sources. The stud dogs and bitches are actively trained in a club, undergoing training and testing in nose work, obedience, and protection work, be it in IGP, French or Belgian Ring, or another related sport.
These sports have been practiced for hundreds of years. The corresponding examination regulations essentially govern the practice of these sports.
Wir unterstützen die genannten Gebrauchshundesportarten deshalb, weil diese die Grundlage einer funktionierenden Zucht bilden. Nur wenn die genannten Hundesportarten weiter ausgeübt und gefördert werden, haben private Züchter einen Anreiz für ihre Tätigkeit. Nur dann findet weiterhin eine Selektion durch den Sport statt, die hinreichend Wert auf Wesenseigenschaften und die körperliche Konstitution des Hundes legt.
Die Ausbildung und das Führen solcher Hunde ist nicht das gleiche wie das Führen reiner Familienbegleithunde, die wesentlich weniger ausgeprägte Triebveranlagungen haben und im Regelfall empfindlicher (und damit auch ansprechbarer) sind.
For the maintenance of the deployment of service dogs in the security service of the Bundeswehr, it is essential that a performance evaluation and training are possible, ensuring that the tested dogs can withstand the challenges in real-life situations.
