Survey on the Perception of Dogs in Our Society

Dog sports, working dogs, and dog training are frequently the subject of controversial public debate. In these discussions, personal experiences, opinions, or prejudices often take center stage. To date, however, there have been few scientific studies conducted in this field.

This is precisely where Daniela Schuster-Gerschler’s master’s thesis comes in. As part of her research, she examines how dogs, dog sports, working dogs, and dog training are perceived within society.

Participating in the survey takes only about 10 minutes, is completely anonymous, and is open to individuals aged 18 and older in Germany. Prior experience with dogs is not required. Therefore, both people with a connection to dogs and those with no direct experience with dogs are welcome to participate.

Every participation helps to gain a more realistic and nuanced picture of the societal perception of dogs. In this way, research can make an important contribution toward grounding discussions surrounding dogs more firmly in facts rather than prejudices.
